Reviewing for your Safety Test

Now review the safety rules in preparation for the safety test. The review is for practice and doesn’t need to be submitted to your teacher.

Step 1. Review of Safety Rules

Complete the following Safety Self-assessment Review on a separate piece of paper. Check your answers.

1.	What is the first step you should take before starting any science activity? Answer Read the instructions
2.	What are some of the dangers of performing your own unsupervised experiments? Answer Spills, fires, personal injury
3.	How long should you flush your eyes with water if chemicals splash into them? Answer 10 minutes
4.	If you are instructed to smell the odour of a chemical, how should you do this? Answer Waft the fumes toward your nose
5.	If your clothing catches on fire, what is the first thing you must do? Answer Stop, drop, and roll on the floor
6.	How do you safely test to see if an object is hot? Answer Bring the back of your hand near the object
7.	What is the first thing you should do when you burn yourself? Answer Run cold water over the burn
8.	How should you unplug an electrical cord? Why do you think this is important? Answer By the plug, so the cord won’t get frayed
