Writing a Lab Report

    Introduction

This Tool for Success introduces you to lab write-ups. By reporting the results of an experiment, scientists share information with other scientists around the world. Without an agreed-upon format for sharing experimental results, scientists would have a difficult time evaluating other scientists' results and performing further investigations or analyses.

Step 1. The Parts of a Lab Report

A lab report generally follows this format:

    1. Purpose
    2. Hypothesis
    3. Materials
    4. Procedures
    5. Observations
    6. Questions
    7. Conclusions
