The Slope of a Line Graph
If you plotted a line graph, have a look at what that line looks like. Does it rise steeply to the right? Or is it a more gradual rise? Maybe it doesn’t rise at all, maybe it actually drops from left to right. To measure the steepness of a line we can find the slope.
The slope of a line graph describes the relationship between the two variables plotted. Let’s go through the steps of finding the slope using our line graph from the example above.
To find the slope of a line, we need to understand what is meant by the rise and the run of the line.
Rise is how far you move up or down between points. In other words, it is the difference in the y values of two coordinates on the line.
Run is how far you move left or right between points. In other words, it is the difference between the x values of two coordinates on the line.
