Lesson 1.1 B:
Cell Structure

Any structure within the cell is called an organelle. Within the cell cytoplasm, organelles perform functions that help the cell live. Just as the human body has organs like the heart, stomach, and lungs, the cell has organelles.

These specialized organelles are more easily understood if we use a model to help explain them. A model is a comparison or analogy that helps make a difficult concept easier to understand. In this lesson, you will use an interactive cell model, the Interactive Cell Activity, to understand the role of organelles in greater detail.
