10 Tips for
Exploring Assignments Fast and Well
- Look over the section assignment before you begin the section. Notice
which parts you can begin while you are working through the lessons.
- Plan to do each assignment quicklyin small periods of focussed
work. The total time needed may be as low as 90 minutes. Here is an
example:
- Part A, 20 marks: 15 minutes
- Part B, 12 marks: 30 minutes
- Part C, 18 marks: 45 minutes
Note: For Module 1 assignments, add 30 minutes, mainly for
early planning. This aspect includes looking over Parts B and C, choosing
options as you work through the section, and beginning to plan answers.
- To complete an assignment well quickly, you will need to have done
effective work on the section lessons.
- Notice that Part A of each section assignment builds on the "Getting
to Know the Issue" activities in the section lessons. Notice that
the remainder of each assignment builds on the "Exploring the Issue"
activities.
- Notice where topics that appear in the section assignment could also
be suitable topics for your Issues Log/Discussion project for the module.
Your Issues Log entries can give you a head start on the section assignment.
- As you work through the lessons, remember to look back over the section
assignment from time to time. Doing so will help you to stay on track.
- Do each part of the assignment as soon as possible. For example, if
a part draws on stated chapters, begin it as soon as you have studied
those chapters.
- Complete Part A of the section assignment as soon as you finish studying
the last chapter required for the section. Try doing it without referring
to the textbook. Then use the textbook to check any items you
are unsure of.
- Before submitting the assignment to your instructor for marking, check
everything. Then submit it promptly, following your school's directions.
- When you receive the assignment back, go over it to see how you can
use the marking and advice to help you with future assignments and tests.
Review the advice again before you begin your next assignment.
