Module 5: Roles and Responsibilities—Inclusion and the Educational Team

Introducing the Team Members

The school-based team always includes the student and their family or guardian, the classroom teacher, educational assistant(s), and administrator. For most students with complex needs, a learning support teacher or counsellor will act as case manager. These team members are in the school daily.

The student’s team will also include itinerants and specialists to support their individual needs:

  • District Inclusion Support Teachers
  • Teachers of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
  • Teachers of Students with Visual Impairments
  • Speech and Language Pathologists
  • Occupational Therapists
  • Physiotherapists
  • Nurses

Itinerants and community-based professionals act as consultants and are not in the school every day. Membership on each student’s team will be different according to the student’s unique needs. Let’s review each team member and introduce you to their roles, starting with the student’s family.
