Module 7: Communication

Introduction

This module addresses how complex communication development is. People communicate in a variety of ways: there are ones you typically think about (such as talking), and some that are subtler (such as tone of voice) but both are equally important. Learning to communicate is more challenging for students with disabilities. Exploring why and how communication is difficult for students with complex needs helps you understand how the communicative demands of today’s classrooms impact their learning and inclusion.

What Will You Learn:

  • The development of communication
  • The different ways we learn language
  • Everyone communicates in many ways, not just by speaking
  • How much more complex communication is for children with disabilities
  • How communication differences can impact a child’s learning
