Specific Strategies for Students Who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing

For students who are deaf or hard of hearing:

Limit background noise
Check that the student is wearing functioning hearing aids or cochlear implants
Make sure hearing aids are fully charged and correctly worn, a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing can demonstrate how to put hearing aids on your student
Ensure the room is well lit with light on the person speaking to erase shadows and facilitate lip reading
When speaking, face your student (not the board), and be on the same level, checking for eye contact
